About the Vajra
The symbolic vajra is a four-pronged, legendary, divine, indestructible adamantine weapon, which can penetrate and destroy any mental obstacle. It is a symbol of the purity of absolute truth and of the powerful, sudden enlightenment which comes with accessing absolute truth. The twelve vajra mandalas in this book are all inspired by the shape and spirit of the vajra, although they differ in style from canonical vajra symbols.
The vajra is central to Vajrayana Buddhism, also known as Tantric Budhism, the Diamond Way and the Thunderbolt way. Vajrayana is the Buddhism of Tibet and of the Dalai Lama. It’s also popular among contemporary visionary artists like Alex Grey. Powerful imagery and visualization are important parts of the meditation practices of Vajrayana, so it’s no wonder this form of Buddhism appeals to visual artists.
At the core of each of these twelve vajra mandalas sits a triple yin yang, or “Gankyil” in Tibetan, meaning “wheel of joy.” The Gankyil is an East Asian Buddhist symbol used to represent many different triunes, or trinities. One of these trinities is the threefold cause of all suffering: the three poisons of hatred, desire and ignorance. Understanding these three sources of suffering, through education and meditation practice, decreases suffering and moves the mind closer to enlightenment.

Tips for Printing this mindfulness coloring book:
Print using a laser printer to prevent smudging during coloring, especially if you’ll be using ink or paint rather than colored pencils or crayons. You may want to print on card stock rather than plain paper to prevent your pigments warping or bleeding through your page.
Please do not sell the PDF files you buy from Candy Hippie and do not sell printed copies, or use the image(s) for any commercial use. You are welcome to give printed copies of Candy Hippie coloring pages unaltered to people you know as gifts, but the artist requires that you please do not give away copies of the file itself.
